On August 30, 2015, Nirankari Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj planted a tree in Tilpath Valley in South Delhi as a part of the Times of India Green Drive. His esteemed spouse Pujya Mata Sawinder Ji also participated in the ceremony by planting another tree. It was the culminating day of the month-long drive which concluded with the planting of 1 lakh saplings to turn the valley into an anti-pollution sink to enable Delhi to breathe life. Besides the Sant Nirankari Mission, several other religious, spiritual and social organizations participated in today’s campaign.
From Sant Nirankari Mission, about 30,000 volunteers participated in the drive under the auspices of the Sant Nirankari Charitable Foundation. Besides planting the trees they looked after all the traffic, parking and registration arrangements. While Sewadal men and women came in their own uniform, the volunteers of the Foundation donned their t-shirts and caps with inspiring messages not only on tree plantation but also the themes like love, peace, tolerance and Harmony in Oneness, etc. Most of the members of the Executive Committee of the Sant Nirankari Mandal and local Sanyojaks and Mukhis also participated along with the devotees from their areas.
Speaking to the media, His Holiness Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj said that the Mission has been carrying out country-wide tree plantation and cleanliness drives since long. At the same time we are always ready to encourage other organizations and participate in their campaigns not with an objective to oblige them but as our own responsibility towards community. We are participating in this Green Drive sponsored by Times of India with the same spirit.
Baba Ji said that our contribution has already found recognition across the world. Only in June this year, the Mission was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Award for Voluntary Service towards community in U.K. Similarly, our contribution in a drive to plant 1 million trees in Australia was also recognized and appreciated. Presently, thousands of our volunteers are extending their services in the Kumbh Mela going on in Nasik.
